FAQs

What are your credentials?
I’m a Licensed Massage Therapist who graduated from the University of Western States on the Honor Roll and at the top of my class. I have been trained under Tami Lynn Kent MSPT., the woman who made it possible for this work to exist and be performed in the first place. Not only have I been trained in her first level course—Holistic Pelvic Care (HPC), but also her second and last—Holistic Pelvic Energy (HPE).

Why did you choose this career?
I chose this career because I want to help women feel as whole, empowered, and healthy as possible. I want to be a part of the cultural shift in regards to how women, especially, see and feel about their vaginas and pelvic bowl. I want to dispel the shame around living with pain in that area, emotional and/or physical. No, menstruation should not be painful. No, it is never your fault. I’m here to change the paradigm—and there is no better way than with you. I chose this career to heal, serve, and empower women.

What is Holistic Pelvic Care?
See Holistic Pelvic Care.

Who is a candidate for Holistic Pelvic Care?
Truly every woman is a candidate for Holistic Pelvic Care, especially those who are undergoing or have undergone trauma (emotional, mental, physical, sexual, etc.). Transgender men who are still making the transition and still have pain and/or problems associated with the female genitalia are also welcomed candidates.

How can Holistic Pelvic Care help survivors of sexual assault?
It has been scientifically proven that cells store trauma, our own cells from our own experiences, but also those of our ancestors. Survivors of sexual assault undergo wounds and scars that are not only physical, but energetic and psychological as well. Holistic Pelvic Care offers a therapy that works on both the energetic and physical trauma all at the same time through myofascial release, trigger point work, and a guidance from me through one’s body. I can assist in bringing one back into one’s body and help to make sense of what one might be feeling and why and how it manifests as so.

Can I receive Holistic Pelvic Care if I’m pregnant?
No, although Holistic Pelvic Care practitioners do not necessarily believe that we would hurt the baby, we want to make absolutely sure that we don’t disturb the pelvic bowl and possibly cause a miscarriage. However, we are still more than capable of performing Holistic Pelvic Energy.

How long do I have to wait after giving birth to receive Holistic Pelvic Care?
Holistic Pelvic Care Practitioners recommend that we wait at least 6 months to a year before we enter the pelvic bowl and begin to manipulate the fascia and muscles. We feel it is important that your body finds its way to heal from the trauma of birth (even if it can be a welcomed and beautiful one!) on its own before we try to mend everything back seamlessly.

Can I receive Holistic Pelvic Care on my period?
Yes, you can! Receiving treatment on your time of month can actually be ideal, especially when working on releasing emotional trauma, energetically speaking.

How much do you charge for a session?
See Pricing.

Do you take insurance?
At this point, I do not take insurance for Holistic Pelvic Care or my other forms of massage. However, I do take Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) cases.

Do you work with men for Holistic Pelvic Care?
Although men can benefit from this type of work, I have made the decision not to treat men through Holistic Pelvic Care. I feel my calling lies with women in that regard. However, I do still treat men through other forms of massage.

How many sessions will it take for me to get 100% better?
You should begin feeling much better and see improvement after your first session; however, there is no guarantee that you will ever be fully healed not only from the physical, but the emotional and psychological as well. This work is important to mix with a counselor as well for trauma cases. Many people still need to come in for tune ups, be that annually, biannually, when they are under extreme stress, or just whenever they feel they need it. That being said, it should not take more than two to three sessions for significant improvement, especially in regards to pain.

What's behind the name?
Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken objects with golden lacquer. They are seen as more beautiful for having been broken because it's a part of their history. I had this in mind when choosing the name for my business. I want to work with people, especially women, who are in pain and in need of relief, who feel broken and at their wit's end and need a little tune up, who feel paranoid and need a safe, healing touch. I'm here for anybody and everybody who needs me! We can all use a little kintsugi every now and then.

What are the similarities and differences between Holistic Pelvic Care and Pelvic Floor Therapy?
Holistic Pelvic Care and Pelvic Floor Therapy are both very similar in that they treat issues of the pelvic bowl: muscle flaccidity/hypertonicity, trigger points, fascial adhesions, problems with organs, imbalances, etc.; however, Holistic Pelvic Care takes a more holistic approach—combining physical and energetic ways of treatment in order for clients to receive overall healing. Holistic Pelvic Care Practitioners believe that the energetic and physical are strongly related and that an imbalance in one can cause the imbalance in another. And on the same coin, that healing and balancing one can do the same to the other.
